HEALTH BENEFITS OF

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

We all agree that exercising is good for your your health and longevity. Can we get the same benefits while training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for exercise? Here is what BJJ can do for you:

  • Improves your fitness

  • Weight control

  • Reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

  • Reduce the risk of diabetes.

  • Strengthen the bones and muscles.

  • Improving the mood

  • Increasing the chances of living longer.

Attending BJJ classes more than twice per week, guarantees to meet your goals of getting fun and engaging exercise. From low intensity technique drills, to full throttle sparring, your fitness will consistently improve as your progress and endure the journey of BJJ.

Self-Defense

We agree that lifting weights or taking fitness classes are good for your health and fitness. But what if you could accomplish both at once? I know your time is valuable. So why not learn the safest yet most effective marital art skills AND get a great workout at the same time?!

Mental-toughness

One thing you want to keep in mind; Training in BJJ is hard. The ego suffers greatly and what can feel like forever. You will ''tap'' when sparring many times against someone you thought you'd have the upper hand with. Great news; that means you're making progress in Jiu Jitsu. But don't quit because it's difficult. It's all part of the humble journey of learning. You will learn that each loss comes with a lesson and if you do the homework, you will get better and begin to earn your victories. You will meet all sorts of people with a lot of different strengths that pertain to BJJ. And with very different personal goals for their reasons to be part of a BJJ community. Some of your "rolls" will be the friendliest and coolest to train. And, some will be tough and rough. Like in many sports, the variety of opponents and training buddies will test you in all ways. If you want to know the fast track to success in BJJ, you need to get your ego under control and focus on becoming humble and showing sportsmanship when you 'tap out' regardless of who it is. The fast way to becoming a toxic personality in a BJJ community by trash talking or not dealing with the tough journey of BJJ. Don't get it wrong though, after earning your stripes both literally and figuratively, a little banter will make rolling a little more fun. This is all earned  when your training partner knows it's all about safe & fun training.

Patience and discipline

Training in BJJ requires consistency with at least 2 classes per week and earning mastery through repetitions. You'll need to have patience with yourself and others when learning and testing your skills, especially when it feels like your BJJ isn't going the way you thought it would. It might be as specific as not getting a move down to not getting a promotion you thought you'd have in a certain amount of time. There will be obstacles in the journey with BJJ. You will need to have strong self-discipline some days to get up from the sofa and get to class when you are tired. Each time you show up to class, you are building the self-discipline to keep you on the path to mastery.

Fun

Despite the hard work, physical demand, and the difficult journey of BJJ, remember that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is also a lot of fun. You leave your problems outside the class. It’s just you and your BJJ buddies. Whether you are, rich, poor, average, famous or just yourself, it doesn’t matter on the mat. When you are stepping on the mat, everything outside of class doesn't exist. You get to be in another world where all the problems have dissipated. It feels like nothing else matters. Some people say it feels like they get to 'take a break' from reality.

THE INSTRUCTOR

GUSTAVO ANDRADE

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, which is regarded as the birthplace of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Gustavo began his training when he was 16 years old. After ten full years of consistent training and competitions around the world, Gustavo was promoted to Black Belt under Fábio Andrade, a coach of many other world champion athletes. Gustavo's next goal is to share his knowledge with those who want to become their best by learning the formula to a successful life style that BJJ gave to him. The knowledge he says has "...helped me with my search for the best version of myself for every single day."
